VimpelCom Ltd was formed in 1992 and was the first Russian company to list on the New York Stock Exchange (in 1996; ticker VIP).
The company is one of the world’s largest integrated telecommunication services operators, offering a wide range of wireless, fixed, and broadband options in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Armenia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Cambodia, Laos, Algeria, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Burundi, Zimbabwe, the Central African Republic, Italy and Canada. VimpelCom Ltd’s operations around the globe cover territory with a total population of approximately 780 mln. The company provides services under the Beeline, Kyivstar, djuice, Wind, Infostrada, Mobilink, Leo, banglalink, Telecel and Djezzy brands servicing more than 214 mln mobile subscribers on a combined basis.
VimpelCom Ltd’s largest market remains Russia, where the operator serves 56 mln subscribers (24.3% market share) at end 2012 as one of the Big Three mobile players. The company’s Russian subsidiary holds a 50% stake in Euroset, Russia’s largest mobile retailer.
